Dr Quentin Gouil

Dr Gouil is an NHMRC Emerging Leadership fellow and lab head at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute in Heidelberg, Australia, where he leads innovative research in epigenetic mechanisms using cutting-edge genomic approaches.

Dr Gouil obtained his PhD in Plant Epigenetics from the University of Cambridge, UK, studying transgenerational epigenetic inheritance and DNA methylation mechanisms. His postdoctoral work at La Trobe University revealed how a genome awakens during seed germination. Building on this foundation, Dr Gouil expanded into mammalian systems at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, where he developed pioneering genomic workflows for studying mammalian epigenetics in health and disease, while also advancing antibody sequencing technologies.

Currently, Dr Gouil leads the Health and Epigenomics Across Life (HEAL) laboratory at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute. His team integrates computational and molecular approaches to deepen our understanding of genome function and advance the field of genomic-informed personalised medicine. Through strong collaborative, interdisciplinary research partnerships, Dr Gouil is pushing the boundaries of epigenetic research while maintaining a deep commitment to mentoring the next generation of scientists and promoting data literacy across disciplines.
