Dr Mehdi Sharifi Tabar

Dr. Mehdi Sharifi Tabar is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Gene & Stem Cell Therapy program at the Centenary Institute. He has a keen interest in the molecular mechanisms of transcriptional gene regulation, particularly in the context of antiviral immunity and inflammation.

Mehdi completed his PhD in 2018 at The University of Sydney under the supervision of Professor Joel Mackay. In 2019 he started a postdoctoral position at the Centenary Institute at The University of Sydney in the lab of Professor John Rasko AO. He applies a range of biophysical and biochemical techniques and animal models to study the role of chromatin remodellers and epigenetic factors in transcriptional gene regulation in immune related diseases.

Mehdi has received several awards and seed grants, including the Kenyon Foundation Inflammation Award (2023), Sydney Infectious Disease Seed Funding (2022), Centenary Institute Early Career Award (2021), The Cure the Future Award for Scientific Excellence (2020), and two Centenary Travel Awards.
