News from EpiCSA‘s 4th annual research meeting, held late last year!

The Epigenetics Consortium of South Australia Incorporated (EpiCSA) held its 4th Annual Research Meeting on Wednesday 20 November 2019 at Flinders University, Victoria Square.

Over 50 people attended the meeting that included 11 oral presentations from South Australian major research institutions as well as institutions from Tasmania and Western Australia. The keynote speakers this year were Dr. Phillippa Taberlay, from the University of Tasmania and Dr Jean Finnegan from CSIRO.

EpiCSA thanks Keynote Speakers Phillippa Taberlay and Jean Finnegan.

EpiCSA’s generous sponsors (Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI), Flinders University, AGRF, Berrigan Winery, and XO Wine Co) helped to keep the registration costs to a minimum and to award 3 prizes totalling $750.

The winner of the Flinders Award was Saira Ali for her presentation on transcriptome of butyrate treated cancer cells.

Sam Buckberry won the AGRF people’s choice award for his talk on shifts in epigenetic landscape in somatic and pluripotent stem cells.

The EpiCSA EPIC Award winner, who will be invited to give a talk at the 2020 meeting, was Amy Doan for her talk on the epigenetic involvement in intrauterine growth restriction and kidney function.

The day was a huge success with lots of time for networking and discussing epigenetics, forming new collaborations and fostering old ones. Most importantly, the event would not have been possible without the EpiCSA committee members, our generous sponsors and EpiCSA members. The committee is already planning next year’s event so watch this space!
